Choosing a Color Scheme for your Website

Choosing a color scheme for your website can often be a difficult task. Most people today have monitors that can display millions of colors so we no longer have to worry about choosing colors from the "web-safe" color palette. However, choosing which colors work well together from the millions of available colors can be overwhelming.

Fortunately, there are several good sites that can help you choose a color scheme for your site. Here's a by-no-means-exhaustive list of a few of my favorites:

  • Web 2.0 Colour Palette - helpful for picking out the latest and freshest colors to give your site a Web 2.0 feel.

  • Color Palette Generator - upload your favorite photograph and Color Palette Generator will create a color scheme from it.

  • Color Schemer Online - one of the oldest and still one of the best. Pick a color you like and color schemer will generate a palette of colors that blend nicely with the color you chose. You can also browse through color schemes created by other people at Color Schemer Gallery.

  • Daily Color Scheme - lots of cool color palettes to choose from here.

  • HGTV's Color Tool - This site focuses on choosing colors for your home, but it's a useful place to pick up inspiration for color schemes you don't see all over the web.

That's my list - if you know of any that should be mentioned, please leave me a comment.
